About this race
The Two Rivers Marathon starts and finishes in Zaltbommel's historic center, covering approximately 42 kilometers through the Bommelerwaard. The course largely follows the dikes along the Waal and Maas rivers, offering runners extended periods with open river vistas. The event is limited to about 1,500 participants, and includes a Duo Marathon option where two runners divide the distance, switching halfway.
The marathon originated as preparation for South Africa's Two Oceans Marathon and Comrades Marathon, and it remains an official qualifier for both. This background influences the participants: runners targeting Two Oceans and Comrades join local marathoners and others attracted by the event's welcoming, intimate atmosphere. Aid stations are positioned every 5 kilometers, equipped with music and medical assistance. Post-race, participants proceed about 200 meters to a park on the old city wall for bag collection, showers, food, additional music, and the event's notable beer and braai.
