Wiekenloop Bovensmilde

The Wiekenloop Bovensmilde begins and ends at the canteen of IJsvereniging Voorwaarts, the local ice club located on Molenwijk in Bovensmilde, Drenthe. This road race offers adult distances of 4 miles, 10 km, and a half marathon, alongside youth races of 500, 1000, and 1500 meters. The event takes place in July, utilizing automatic timing, with parking available at MFA de Spil. The 4-mile and 10 km races are part of the Midden-Drenthe running circuit. The half marathon features a course consisting of one approximately 9 km loop followed by two approximately 6 km loops. The route winds partly through the village and significantly through the surrounding countryside. IJsvereniging Voorwaarts has organized this race for many years. Recent participation has been modest and local, with just over 200 runners in the main distances. The day commences with youth races preceding the adult events, creating a village running day atmosphere alongside the competition.
