About this race
The Zwartewaterloop is a Friday-evening road race held in Zwartsluis. The start is at Handelskade 25, offering five distances from 1 km to the half marathon. The 1 km and 3 km races are for youth, while adults can select 6 km, 12.2 km, or 21.1 km. This is a local event with a participant cap of 500, though a recent edition had around 600 runners after entries approximately doubled. Late entry is permitted. The event provides parking, showers, a supervised cloakroom, first aid, and AEDs.
The half marathon features a unique start: runners are transported by tour bus to a ferry and begin from a pontoon in Genemuiden after the mayor fires the starting shot. Organizers intend to maintain this pontoon start, though the number of participants is restricted by the boat's capacity. The route is significant locally as it united all Zwartewaterland towns in a single running event for the first time, with volunteers from Genemuiden and Hasselt, in addition to Zwartsluis. Recent half-marathon winners include Gert Jan Snel from Hasselt and Chantal Eekhoorn from Apeldoorn.
