About this race
Ålesund Maraton is a road race in central Ålesund, Norway, typically held in early June, starting on the south side of Skansekaia. Participants can select from 5 km, 10 km, half marathon, or full marathon distances. A 5 km relay is also available for teams. Children have their own Barnas Minimaraton, featuring two shorter distances. The races take place on paved roads, suitable for those aiming for a personal best, running with friends, walking the 5 km, or attempting a longer distance for the first time.
The race has taken place annually since 1992, initially featuring a half marathon and a short "Miniton." The first half marathon began in Brusdal and concluded in Ålesund city center. Subsequent marathon courses started at Torget, looped in Brusdalen, and returned to Torget. Bedriftsidretten Sunnmøre manages the current event, aiming for broad participation: friends, family, colleagues, neighbors, adults, and children are welcomed to the city-center event. Organizers refer to it as “Årets gøyeste dag,” translating to “the year’s most fun day,” with spectators encouraging runners along the route.
