Randaberg Backyard Ultra begins and ends on Randabergfjellet, a high point in Randaberg near Stavanger. The race uses the backyard format: participants run a 6.7 km loop each hour. This edition allows up to 12 loops, meaning each runner can stop when they choose or continue up to 50 miles / 80 km. The time dictates the race; completing a loop faster provides more rest before the next hourly start.
The course includes asphalt, gravel, beaches, rocky shores, a golf course, sea views, animals, and a small hill around 50 meters above sea level. During breaks between loops, runners can use Friluftslivets hus as a rest area, where food and drink are provided with the entry fee. The event is designed to be social, allowing participants to run at their own pace, rest indoors, discuss tactics, and share the same loop regardless of how many laps they complete or if they aim for the full distance.
