About this race
Gråkallen Opp is a short, steep uphill race in Trondheim, Norway, running from Ilaparken toward the Gråkallen Panorama area. It typically takes place in October, late in the running season and just before the cross-country ski season begins. Organized by NTNUI Langrenn, participation supports TV-aksjonen for Barnekreftforeningen, the Norwegian children’s cancer association. The route is approximately 7.5 kilometers with over 500 meters of elevation gain, emphasizing sustained uphill strength over flat-road speed.
The course uses natural paths through Iladalen to Studenterhytta, then descends toward Skistua before the final ascent to the summit of Gråkallen. Start lists and results indicate participants come from running, skiing, orienteering, triathlon, mountain sport, and local student clubs, with NTNUI athletes frequently appearing. Winning times are often close to 30 minutes, and a top-10 finish in the high 30-minute range signifies a strong performance. The race has been a fixture on Trondheim’s autumn schedule for over ten years, and its timing between the running and ski seasons attracts both runners and winter-sport enthusiasts.
