Hornindal Rundt takes runners into the mountains above Hornindal in Nordfjord, located north of Stryn in Volda municipality. Organized by Hornindal idrettslag, this summer trail and mountain race offers 12 km, 38 km, and 75 km distances. The 75 km ultra covers 75 kilometers, includes 20 mountain checkpoints, and involves 5,600 meters of climbing. Hornindal is situated next to Hornindalsvannet, a lake 514 meters deep, making it the deepest in Europe and 12th deepest globally.
The 75 km course is marked with ribbons and large white ground markers. The race evolved from a local tradition over 50 years ago, where residents walked between mountain checkpoints. From Gulekoppen, participants can view Jostedalsbreen to the south, the Sunnmore Alps to the north, and the sea to the west, illustrating the route's exposed and expansive nature. This event is suited for those seeking a demanding challenge across mountain terrain, rather than a simple run on accessible paths.
