Jotunheimvegen Ultra is the long mountain race in the Skåbu Fjellmaraton series. It starts at Bygdin Høifjellshotell on Valdresflya, approximately 12 km from Beitostølen, and finishes in Skåbu center. Much of the race is situated above 1000 meters, making it a practical mountain ultra as well as a running challenge. Runners are advised to dress for the forecast, carry extra clothing, bring a phone, and provide their own drinks for the initial 14 km.
Following a brief opening loop from the hotel, the course proceeds along RV51 to the Jotunheimvegen turnoff. It then continues on gravel past mountain farms beside Vinstervatna, offering views towards the Jotunheim peaks. From approximately 38 km, it merges with the marathon course, descends to Slangen Seter, circles the mountain lake Olstappen, and concludes with a steep 3 km ascent up Kamfossbakken into Skåbu. Six aid stations are provided, offering water and sports drink initially, with bananas and cola added later, along with food and drink at the finish. Slangen also functions as the cutoff point, where participants can choose to continue without organizer support or take transportation to Skåbu.
