Skarverennet
Saturday, April 17, 2027 · Finse, Norway
About this race
Skarverennet is a large cross-country ski race in Norway, held in late April as a season-ending event for many skiers. Geilo Idrettslag has organized it since 1974, and few ski races globally attract a field of comparable size. The primary course spans 38 kilometers from Finse to Ustaoset, crossing the Hallingskarvet area over high mountain terrain. Both recreational and competition classes are offered, accommodating serious racers and those seeking a long spring tour.
One factor defines the entire day: Finse lacks road access, requiring all participants starting there to arrive by train. The course features aid stations at Lengjedalsvatnet, Bjødnabu, and Raggemyran, with the Lengjedalsvatnet stop exclusively for those coming from Finse. A 22-kilometer route from Haugastøl to Ustaoset was introduced to increase participant numbers, raising capacity to approximately 12,000. The list of past winners includes prominent Nordic skiers such as Oddvar Brå, Pål Gunnar Mikkelsplass, Elin Nilsen, Therese Johaug, Dario Cologna, and Johann Mühlegg, yet the race's character is equally shaped by thousands of skiers concluding winter together on the same mountain path.
