About this race
Tyrifjorden Rundt is a Norwegian cycling race that follows a long lap around Tyrifjorden, the lake situated northwest of Oslo. This lake has a shoreline measuring approximately 171 km. The initial iteration of the race was organized by IK Hero from Oslo, commencing at Ullevaal Stadion, concluding at Rådhusplassen in central Oslo, and spanning slightly more than 200 km. Since 2014, it has operated as a turritt, a mass-participation touring event, with its start and finish located in Sandvika. Route choices are offered at 64, 145, and 245 km.
The historical course directed cyclists from Oslo, around Tyrifjorden, and back to the city, establishing it as a demanding one-day road race instead of a brief local circuit. The competition attracted accomplished Norwegian club cyclists and notable Scandinavian figures. Among the victors were Erling Kristiansen of IK Hero, Johan Magne Wiig, who set a record of 5:41:41, Swedish cyclist Gösta Pettersson with a time of 5:13:54, and Danish rider Jørgen Emil Hansen. The event also maintained a modest race-weekend custom, featuring Torshovløpet on the Monday following the Sunday race, and at least one edition was broadcast on television.
