About this race
Vinterkarusellen Ålesund - 2. løp is the December race in Ålesund’s winter running series. All five races in the series start at 1:00 PM from BestDrive in Fremmerholen, held on the second Sunday of each month from November through March. Runners can choose between 5 km and 10 km. This is a practical winter race; cold, wet conditions are common, and reflectors or bright running clothes are recommended. The 5 km also has an untimed class for those who wish to run for exercise without focusing on time.
Both distances follow a measured out-and-back course into Brusdalen. The 5 km turns at 2.5 km, and the 10 km turns at 5 km before returning to the start/finish area. Traffic on Gamle Brusdals veg is typically light on Sundays, but runners should be aware of the section near Hageland (also known as Viddals gartneri) where vehicles and runners may cross paths. Post-race refreshments include juice, cola, cake, and coffee, reflecting the series' low-key club atmosphere. Prizes are drawn after each race, and participants completing at least three races receive a series prize after the final event. The series began in the mid-1980s, initially in the Furmyra and Åse area, before relocating to the current Fremmerholen and Brusdalen course.
