About this race
From the Hygge Café grounds at Clifton Bay, the Cape Kidnappers Trail Run goes directly into private coastal farmland and forest near Te Awanga. This is an off-road day where the land itself is the main attraction. It is designed for runners and walkers who prefer their trails somewhat rugged: "windswept beaches, native bush, river gorges, waterfalls and rolling coastal hills" instead of manicured park paths.
Expect a genuine trail rhythm, with private farmland, forest, riverbeds, and coastal ridgelines altering the footing frequently enough to maintain focus. Some routes include forest climbs, a dry riverbed section, and rolling farmland, with Bang Your Head Gate serving as a named checkpoint that sounds like the sort of place you recall after the race. The participants are primarily intermediate and experienced trail runners and walkers rather than casual joggers, although shorter options are available for those seeking a brief experience of private coastal farmland and trail.
