The Fine Signs Crazyman Multisport & Duathlon is Wellington’s oldest multisport event, held each December around Eastbourne and Petone in the Wellington region. It is an off-road race with two main options: the full multisport course includes a 13K sea kayak, 28K mountain bike, and 13K trail run, while the duathlon uses the bike and run segments, omitting the paddle. Approximately 400 people compete each year, individually or in teams, drawing serious multisport athletes, relay squads, and groups tackling a single leg together.
The full course begins with a kayak from Days Bay to Petone Wharf, then directs riders onto the Hutt River Trail and across Belmont Regional Park. The run circles Belmont Trig, follows Korokoro Stream, and concludes back at Petone Wharf. The race utilizes much of Hutt City’s outdoor landscape in a single event: harbour, beach, river trail, hill tracks, and bush paths. Organiser MDJ Media & Events frames The Crazyman as a community event welcoming various ages, abilities, and backgrounds, aligning with its solo-or-team format.
