About this race
Orton Bradley Park hosts this duathlon on the “hills and trails above Lyttelton Harbour,” setting the tone before the race begins. It’s a mixed-surface event, featuring road cycling and off-road running sections through the park’s walking tracks. The course offers enough variation to feel like a day in the hills rather than a pure road session.
The course transitions from grass and shingle roads to “trail sections with steps, roots, and uneven terrain.” The cycling leg follows the Allandale hill course, and the final run is distinctly trail-focused. You’ll see experienced athletes tackling the climb, alongside beginners, para athletes, youth, juniors, children, and families opting for the shorter distance or simplified course for younger participants. The children’s race is practically designed: it “takes place within the park grounds on a separate route away from traffic.”
