Lugton's Round the Bridges 2026

Lugton's Round the Bridges is a long-running road race and walk in Hamilton City Centre, starting and finishing at Garden Place. Annually, thousands of participants enter the city for an event that has occurred for about eight decades, placing it among New Zealand's oldest continuously contested races. The race originated with the Hamilton Harrier Club, now Hamilton City Hawks, intended to showcase top New Zealand runners. Its historical fields included Barry Magee, Peter Snell, and Dick Quax. The modern event, however, is broader than an elite competition: primary school students, club runners, walkers, families, and experienced participants all use the same streets. All finishers receive a medal, and music along the course contributes to a city-centre community atmosphere rather than a subdued club run.
