About this race

The Rodney Coast Challenge is an annual point-to-point multisport race held in New Zealand’s Rodney District. It begins at Woodhill Forest and concludes waterside at Wenderholm Regional Park. In essence, it's a west-to-east progression: run, ride, bike, paddle, and finally, a short sprint to the finish. Participants can tackle the entire course solo or as part of a relay team of two, three, or four, making it accessible for less experienced multisport athletes while still offering a challenge for seasoned competitors. The solo course features a 10 km run through Woodhill Forest, followed by a 30 km road cycle passing through Helensville and Kaukapakapa. Next is a 25 km gravel and mountain bike section across Makarau and Puhoi, culminating in an 8 km paddle on the Puhoi River towards Wenderholm. Kayaks, waka, or paddleboards can be used for the paddle. School teams have a distinct relay option with provided kayaks, and youth categories cater to ages 13 to 18. The Kaukapakapa Scout Group organizes the race, with proceeds supporting Scouts. The event relies on assistance from Keas, Cubs, Scouts, parents, and leaders, many with long-standing family ties to Scouting in the region.
