About this race
The 4th Iron Trail, held in early July, takes place at Pavilhão Desportivo de Albogas in Albogas, Sintra, Portugal. It features a 30 km Long Trail with approximately 1,300 m of elevation gain, a 17 km Short Trail with about 700 m, an 11 km Mini Trail with around 400 m, and an 11 km walk sharing the same climb profile. Starts are staggered throughout the morning, beginning with the longest race, and the event has a 7-hour time limit.
The courses traverse the Serra de Monfirre region along marked trails, with reflective tape and vertical signs guiding participants. This is semi-autonomous trail running, requiring athletes to carry mandatory gear, use the official bib and chip, and refrain from outside assistance. Three aid and control stations offer liquid and solid provisions. Organized by Associação Desportiva Trilhos do Costume, the event is for adults and recognizes overall winners, age-group finishers, and teams.
