About this race
The Trail São Macário is a two-day trail running event held in Sul, a village within São Pedro do Sul, Portugal. All races commence and conclude at the Escola Primária de Sul. Participants can choose from four distances: a 51 km Ultra Trail featuring 4,124 m of elevation gain, a 31 km Trail with 2,109 m of gain, a 21 km Trail Sprint covering 1,247 m, and an 11 km Mini-Trail/Caminhada with 487 m of gain. The three running races are designated for participants aged 18 and older, while the Mini-Trail/Caminhada is accessible to those aged 14 and up.
All courses traverse the Serra da Arada region surrounding São Macário, utilizing technical mountain paths, ancient trails, dense woodlands, and varied terrain including dirt, stone, asphalt, and calçada. The ascents are a defining characteristic of the event; even the shortest distance includes almost 500 m of climbing, and the ultra covers over 4,000 m across approximately 51 km. The race, now in its ninth edition, is organized by GTT.SPS Grupo Todo Terreno de São Pedro do Sul and incorporates time limits, checkpoints, team categories, and team awards.
