Aquae Brunheiro Trail Running takes place in mid-September in Chaves, northern Portugal, utilizing the Serra do Brunheiro for its terrain. The course begins in Vilar de Nantes village and concludes in Chaves city, offering participants a mountain-to-city route instead of a standard loop. Competitive distances include a 12 km Mini Trail featuring 454 m of elevation gain, a 20-23 km trail race with over 1,000 m of ascent, and a 30 km main course with 1,681 m of gain.
The Associação Lobos do Brunheiro de Chaves organizes the event, collaborating with the Municipality of Chaves. The weekend also offers a 12 km walk, a Kids Trail, and junior races, catering to a wider audience beyond seasoned mountain runners. The short and long races are part of the Vila Real Athletics Association's regional trail circuit and are also recognized by the National Trail Circuit and UTMB Index. A communal lunch in Chaves' public garden follows the races.
