SAND RUN

Sand Run, or Corrida das Areias, is a 12 km race in São Jacinto, Aveiro, held in July and based at Regimento de Infantaria Nº10. The event begins and ends within the regiment, near Casa da Guarda. RI10 organizes the race, with technical support from Ria Ativa. It is open to runners 18 and older of any nationality. The format is a road-and-sand race, not a long trail or ultra. Most of the route is within the military facilities, then runners go onto the sand at Praia de São Jacinto before returning to RI10. Route areas include Marginal, Avenida Ria Mar, the beach, and the regiment grounds. This is the fourteenth edition of the race. A solidarity walk occurs simultaneously for those who want to participate without the full race. Electronic timing is used at the start and finish. Aid stations are located around 5.8 km, 9.6 km, and at the finish. Finishers receive a shirt and medal. Age-category podiums are awarded trophies, with additional prizes for the youngest and oldest athlete. Category winners get free entry for the next edition.
