Corrida das Lezírias 2027

Corrida das Lezírias is a morning race day in Vila Franca de Xira, featuring a 15.5 km main race that mixes asphalt, cobblestone, and dirt paths. The event also includes a 5 km race on a paved road surface and a children’s Corridinha over 400 to 800 meters. It is the largest athletics event organized by the Municipal Chamber of Vila Franca de Xira, with Xistarca collaborating with the municipality. Thousands of runners and sports fans come from across Portugal each year, making it feel more like a town-wide running day than a small local start line. The main appeal is the route's movement between the urban edge of Vila Franca de Xira and the Lezíria Ribatejana landscape, a flat riverside area strongly tied to Ribatejo identity. The different surfaces make the 15.5 km race more varied than a standard road run, while the 5 km and kids’ races remain accessible to newer runners and families. The event has surpassed thirty editions, giving it a long local history among Portuguese road races. A recent tradition adds a community angle: participants can bring hygiene products, cleaning supplies, and non-perishable food to support people in Arruda dos Vinhos.
