Gravel Meeting is a two-day gravel cycling event held in São José da Lamarosa, Portugal, with routes spanning Ribatejo and Alentejo. Taking place in early October, the weekend is divided into a social first day and a more competitive second day. Participants can choose a non-competitive 30 km Social Ride with approximately 250 m of climbing, or Race Day options of around 80 km with 1,000 m of elevation gain and 140 km with 2,000 m. The event is designed for gravel riders, not road-race specialists, incorporating GPX navigation, limited support, and semi-self-sufficiency.
The first day is intentionally relaxed, featuring ride leaders, a buffet of local products, wines, and sweets post-ride, followed by a Gravel Party with music, a DJ sunset, and a Race Day presentation. Race Day is open to affiliated and non-affiliated athletes; adults are eligible, and minors require parental authorization and supervision. The field is capped at 200 riders, a limit set by organizers to preserve the rider experience and minimize environmental impact. Practical amenities include basic mechanical support, a bike washing zone, supervised bike storage, showers, toilets, safety and navigation briefings, and free overnight space for camping or motorhomes.
