About this race
The Meia Maratona Rainha Dona Leonor is a road race in Caldas da Rainha, starting and finishing at the Municipal Sports Complex. The main event is a 21.1 km half marathon, complemented by a 10 km race and a 5 km walk. This offers options for those seeking a longer morning challenge and for participants preferring a more relaxed city exploration. The half marathon and 10 km are designated for adults 18 and older, while the 5 km walk is open to all ages. A children’s race is also featured, with distances of 300 m, 500 m, 700 m, and 1,000 m tailored to different age categories.
The route consists of asphalt and urban pavement, incorporating rougher areas in the historic center and sections of Portuguese calçada. It is predominantly flat, though some urban segments feature inclines that require more deliberate pacing than a straightforward fast-road course. The race takes place within a broader urban context: Caldas da Rainha is a UNESCO Creative City of Crafts and Folk Art. During race weekend, visitors can explore the Queen’s Paths, thermal springs, and the Oeste Geopark. The Municipality of Caldas da Rainha organizes the event, with HMS Sports managing the technical aspects. Participants receive a T-shirt and socks in their starter kit.
