About this race
Montalegre Urban Fit is an urban obstacle course race in Montalegre, a village in Portugal’s Vila Real district in Trás-os-Montes. Urban Fit Race organizes it, sending runners through historic streets, squares, and tight village corners instead of a purpose-built field course. The format is OCR: running mixed with obstacles testing strength, agility, and nerve. The event includes Elite League, FPOCR, Competitive, and Warrior categories, so FPOCR League athletes compete alongside amateurs seeking the same rough urban challenge.
The setting significantly shapes the race. Montalegre sits above the Mourelo Plateau and Serra do Larouco, the second-highest point in mainland Portugal. The village is associated with witch legends and Friday the 13th traditions, contributing to its “Capital of Mysticism” nickname. Its medieval castle overlooks the surrounding Barroso landscape, and the wider area serves as a gateway to Peneda-Gerês National Park. On race day, obstacles are threaded through an old mountain village with a strong local character and a folklore-heavy reputation.
