About this race
The Sines Triathlon begins with a 2 km swim in the Baía de Sines, followed by 80 km cycling and 18 km running, totaling 100 km on Portugal’s Alentejo coast. Held in September in Sines, it is part of the HMS Triathlon Series, connecting it with the Setúbal Triathlon. HMS Sports organizes the race, with support from the Câmara Municipal de Sines. The event follows a PTO-style middle-distance format, not standard Olympic or full Ironman distances.
The swim starts and finishes at Praia Vasco da Gama. The transition area and the cycling and running start/finish are located at Passeio Vasco da Gama. The bike leg consists of three laps, and the run is three laps of 6 km, concluding on Avenida Vasco da Gama. Participants must be at least 18 years old; teams can enter as a two- or three-member relay. The swim uses a rolling start, with elite athletes beginning in small groups at short intervals. The race has strict cutoffs for the swim, the final bike section, the run start, and the overall finish. Setúbal Triathlon participants get a discount for Sines, practically linking the two HMS events for those competing in both.
