About this race
TAUT - Terras Do Ancião Ultra Trail begins in Ansião, within Portugal’s Leiria district, and takes place over three days in late winter. It is a mountain and trail-running weekend offering seven competitive distances plus a walk. Distances range from 13 km to a 240 km ultra covering 9,639 m of elevation gain. The shorter options, including 20 km, 35 km, and 62 km, still require capable trail running legs. The longer races consist of 100 km, 160 km, and nocturnal UTMB Index events. The 13 km distance is suitable for younger participants and Nordic walkers, broadening the field beyond just ultra specialists.
The route crosses roads and paths across a significant portion of central Portugal, extending into municipalities such as Soure, Pombal, Penela, Castanheira de Pêra, Góis, Pampilhosa da Serra, Oleiros, Sertã, Pedrógão Grande, Figueiró dos Vinhos, and Ansião. Stone is integral to the race’s identity; organizers connect local art and landscape through this natural element. Ansibikers manages the event, with assistance from the Municipality of Ansião’s sports office. This marks the race’s twelfth edition and it holds national standing in Portugal. The organizers describe the courses plainly as difficult, yet rewarding for their trails and views.
