About this race
The Trail Boneca Douro begins and ends in Sebolido, a village of approximately 900 residents located south of Penafiel, about 30 km from Porto. This mountain and trail running event takes place on the slopes of Serra da Boneca, offering several race distances: a 46 km ultra, a 23 km Trail Sprint, a 12 km MiniTrail, and a 10 km walk. The event originated from a local trail-running community and is organized by the Association for the Development of Sebolido, with the goal of promoting sport and attracting visitors to the region.
The name aligns with the location: Sebolido is situated between Serra da Boneca and the north bank of the Douro River. Serra da Boneca reaches an elevation of 518 meters. The longest route crosses mountain trails, the Mau River valley, the Banjas Caves, the historic village of Cabroelo with its mills and streams, the Baloiço and Miradouro da Boneca viewpoints, the Douro riverbanks, and the Fragas da Abitureira rock formations overlooking the river. Approximately 750 participants are anticipated, ranging from competitive trail runners to walkers seeking a day outdoors in the hills. The race was established in 2015, during a period of rapid growth for trail running in Portugal, and it retains a connection to the small village where it started.
