Trail do Cavalo

Trail do Cavalo is a nature trail race in Alter do Chão, Portalegre district, Portugal, offering routes of approximately 32 km, 20 km, and 13 km, alongside a walk and children's races. It is designed for runners seeking predominantly off-road terrain, with paved or asphalt sections intended to comprise less than one-fifth of the total distance. The difficulty is rated low to medium, accommodating experienced trail runners, occasional runners, younger athletes, and families opting for the walk. The longer races commence at the Coudelaria de Alter do Chão, with transportation arranged by the organizers. The youth trail and walk begin at Largo dos Doze Melhores de Alter, near the castle. All distances conclude at the same square. The course incorporates a variety of surfaces including dirt roads, forest paths, trails, single track, stone, stairs, and brief asphalt sections, set against the backdrop of rural Alentejo landscapes. The event also features Trail Kid's, a series of shorter races aimed at introducing children to athletics.
