Trail do Texugo 2027

Trail do Texugo is a trail running race held in the village of Serra D'Ossa, near Redondo in Portugal's Évora district. Participants start and finish in the same village, selecting from four distances: approximately 10 km for beginners, 15 km for sprint and youth categories, 30 km for the long trail, and 45 to 46 km for the ultra. The race primarily follows rural dirt paths within the Serra D'Ossa mountain range, featuring sufficient climbs and uneven terrain to provide a genuine off-road challenge distinct from road races with minor gravel sections. The courses traverse trails, forest tracks, firebreaks, singletrack, and dirt roads, leading past streams, springs, orchards, and ancient hermit ruins. The mountain range reaches its peak at São Gens, 653 m high. This area possesses significant local history, having been inhabited since the Bronze Age, used by shepherds for shelter, and settled by early Christian hermits in its hills. Runners might pass or approach sites like Alto do Castelo, the cliffside Church of Monte Virgem, and the Convent of São Paulo, offering the race as a rugged exploration of the Serra D'Ossa landscape.
