About this race
Trail Esposende is a trail-running event in Esposende, Portugal, set near the Atlantic coast with the Arriba Fossil de Esposende underfoot. It takes place over a March weekend, offering runners a choice of 32 km, 20 km, or 14 km distances, alongside a 14 km walk and Kids Trail races for younger participants. The 32 km race involves approximately 1100 m of elevation gain, the 20 km Trail Sprint about 650 m, and the 14 km Youth/Mini Trail around 350 m, indicating that even the shorter distances require significant climbing.
The routes traverse forest paths, single track, stream crossings, and trails near the sea, providing views of the Atlantic and the Cavado river estuary. The event is also known as Trail Galaico, with its theme, “Trails with 2000 years of history,” referencing the area’s Castreja and Galaic heritage. Participants will pass archaeological sites like Castro de S. Lourenco, adding local character beyond a typical coastal trail race. The Kids races commence first, followed by the main trail, sprint, youth race, and walk on the second day.
