About this race
The Trail São Gonçalo Floki begins and ends at Coutada Picnic Park in Carapeços, Barcelos, northern Portugal. Organized by BESTMOVE in conjunction with the Carapeços parish council, local groups, sponsors, and volunteers, this trail-running event takes place in September. While the program varies by edition, it typically offers runners multiple distances: trail races of approximately 25-30 km, a shorter race of about 15-16 km, and a non-competitive 8 km walk. Some editions have also featured a challenging 50 km ultra option with around 2600 m of elevation gain, intended for experienced trail runners.
The courses traverse the trails of Serra da Franqueira, Serra de São Mamede, and São Gonçalo, presenting rugged terrain, technical segments, and steep ascents. Most race distances pass through the center of Carapeços. The walk is designed as the most accessible option, suitable for all ages. The event also serves a charitable purpose, with its solidarity component having previously supported a boy with an incurable disease. It is part of the Best Runners Barcelos Trophy, and the Barcelos council participates in the prize ceremony, highlighting its close connection to the local running community rather than being an isolated mountain race.
