About this race
Ultra Geira Via Nova Romana is a spring trail running event in northern Portugal, held near Terras de Bouro, Amares, and the Gerês area. The event features two races and a walk: a 50 km ultra trail, an 18 km trail, and a walking option. Confraria Trotamontes and Clube Orientação do Minho are the organizers, with support from the municipalities of Amares and Terras de Bouro. The 50 km race is part of the Circuito Nacional Ultra Serie 100, and the 18 km race is part of the Circuito Nacional Trail Sprint Serie 150.
The route follows historic paths between Terras de Bouro and Amares, incorporating a section of the Via Nova Romana, also known as the Geira. This Roman-era road connected Bracara Augusta with Astorga, meaning participants run on mountain trails and a segment of ancient Iberian infrastructure. The event is listed on the ATRP calendar, bringing ultra runners, shorter-distance trail runners, and walkers to the Gerês region for the same weekend.
