Vertical Elevador Santa Luzia is a 650-meter uphill race in Viana do Castelo, held in June alongside the Santa Luzia elevator. It ascends approximately 160 meters from the lower elevator station to the summit near the Templo de Santa Luzia, making the event short, steep, and swift if your legs are capable. It is part of Portugal's national Sky Sprint circuit and is also connected to the Youth National Championship of the Portuguese Federation of Camping and Mountaineering.
Runners begin individually rather than in a group, suiting the narrow, technical character of the climb and turning pacing into a personal challenge against the gradient. The competition targets athletes specializing in rapid vertical efforts, not those seeking a moderate road race. Associação Trilhos de Viana organizes it with the Portuguese federation, and the municipality provides support.
