About this race
Fjällmaratonveckan Årefjällen is a mountain trail running week centered in Ottsjö, Jämtland County, Sweden, typically taking place in late July and early August. The distances range from short 5 km and 12 km courses to the 26.4 km Salomon 27K, the Kia 45K, and a 105 km ultra, alongside children’s and junior races. These longer routes are demanding: the 26.4 km race involves approximately 1000 metres of climbing, the 45 km race around 1900 metres, and the 105 km race about 3100 metres. Several races contribute to the UTMB Index, attracting runners seeking mountain race points as well as those opting for a shorter trail run.
The primary 45K race follows the Fjällmaraton trail over Ottfjället, while the week’s events span mountain, nature, lake, and pond terrain in the Åre highlands. The event sees broad participation: the 26.4 km race has attracted over 600 runners, the 45 km race more than 400, and the entire series now includes nearly 3500 participants across 10 races. Originating as a single race with 60 runners, it has evolved into an eight-day running festival, retaining a local mountain-race character despite its growth. Trillevallen and Ottsjö are part of the race geography, connecting the series to the villages and trails around Ottfjället rather than a city-based course.
