About this race
The Hammarby Alpin Marathon is a trail race held at Hammarbybacken, Stockholm’s urban ski slope, on the first Advent. Rather than sending runners across the city, the event has them ascend, traverse, and circle the same hill for 22 laps. Marathon and 50 km distances are offered, making the longer option slightly exceed a standard marathon.
The organizers refer to it as a microultra and humorously suggest it might be Sweden’s slowest marathon. The course is technical, contained, and spectator-friendly, featuring lap transitions and a finish near the wind shelter in Barnbacken. Stockholm Multisportklubb stages this as a festive Advent event, giving the race the character of a determined hill-running gathering in late-season Stockholm, rather than a swift city marathon.
