About this race
Göteborg Marathon begins and ends at Slottsskogsvallen, the historic athletics stadium in Slottsskogen park, Gothenburg, Sweden. This October road race, organized by the local club Solvikingarna, offers marathon and half marathon distances. The marathon has been held since 1972, with only two editions not taking place, and the half marathon was introduced later to support the event's finances. It is now Sweden's third largest marathon.
The course follows a straightforward path: participants depart south from the arena, proceed along the bike path on the former railway line by the coast, make a turn at Lilla Amundön, and return via the same route. Half marathon runners complete one circuit, whereas marathon runners undertake the out-and-back course twice. The terrain is level and direct, allowing for fast times, though the coastal wind can present challenges on the seaside portions. Race headquarters are situated at Friidrottens hus, near the start and finish line.
