About this race
Växjö Marathon is a 42.195 km road marathon in Växjö, Sweden, run in October and organized by the local club Växjö Löparklubb. Since 1994, it has drawn hundreds of starters, establishing it as Sweden’s second largest marathon and a popular long-distance race.
The race consists of eight laps around Växjösjön, with approximately 3 meters of elevation change per lap. The course is primarily asphalt with sections of dirt road. The cool October weather contributes to its reputation as a fast course, with organizers referring to it as likely Sweden’s fastest marathon course. The race is also known as Marathon de Växjö. The city’s name itself relates to roads and lakes, with "väg" meaning road and "sjö" referring to an old winter route across the frozen lake to the marketplace.
