About this race
At 9:00 on the first Sunday of October, runners assemble on Hlavná Street in Košice for the International Peace Marathon, commonly known as MMM. This 42 km road marathon takes place in eastern Slovakia, organized by Marathon Club Košice, and has been held annually since 1924. It holds the distinction of being the oldest marathon in Europe and the third oldest globally, following Boston and Yonkers.
The start is located in front of the DoubleTree by Hilton, formerly the Hotel Slovan, in Košice's city center. The event attracts strong international competitors and a significant local gathering, with marathon runners participating alongside other races within the MMM program. A separate women's race has been held since 1980. The marathon has been recognized with a World Athletics Heritage Plaque, and its course records are 2:06:47 for men and 2:21:08 for women.
