Recurring Marathon races near Akron

Races that repeat — weekly, monthly or yearly

Run with Scissors
SUN OCT 25
Run with Scissors begins and ends at Riverdale Regional Park in Brighton, Colorado. All races start at 7:00 a.m. during the spring. The series offers runners three distance options: a half marathon, a marathon, and a 50K. A 9-hour time limit applies to all three distances, catering to long-distance runners seeking an extended period on the course rather than a brief, speed-focused event. The race honors its name with a custom scissors-shaped medal. Finishers also receive a race-specific wicking beanie and a 16-ounce pub-style drinking glass. A portion of the proceeds benefits Almost Home Inc., a nonprofit charity. Previous events featured Darla’s vegan chili, prepared with sweet potato, quinoa, black beans, kidney beans, onion, garlic, tomato sauce, and garlic-and-herb pasta sauce.
Run The Land - East vs. West
SAT APR 10
Run The Land - East vs. West, a Greater Cleveland race series, pits participants against each other based on the city’s old river rivalry, with a choice of East or West at registration. The race weekend includes Friday packet pickup and Saturday wave starts. Available distances are marathon, 20-mile, half marathon, 10K, and 5K, along with a virtual option for those who prefer to run on their own schedule. The in-person courses are marked sidewalk routes that follow normal traffic laws, with RaceJoy GPS tracking runners, providing off-course warnings, and recording official finish times. Aid stations are positioned every 3 miles for half marathon, 20-mile, and marathon participants. The event, designed by runners, benefits Greater Cleveland nonprofits. Each runner selects a 501(c)(3) charity during registration. Additional race-day perks include a pint glass, drink ticket, bib, timing chip, charity fundraising shirts or hoodies, a Cleveland Road Runners Club discount, and team bragging rights with distinct shirt colors for the East or West victor.

About Marathon races in Akron

Akron Training Notes

Akron hosts 5 Marathon races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Akron runners lean hard on Summit Metro Parks, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, the Towpath Trail, and Sand Run Metro Park for base miles, trail days, and easy Z2. Canal Rats, Solely Responsible, Portage Lakes Running Club, Lawn Wranglers Running Group, Running2bWell, and Blue Line Beginners give locals a lot of ways to plug in without making it weird. Trail runners use Crooked River Trail Runners, and the Burning River crowd keeps the ultra vibe close. The Towpath Trail runs 70 km, so locals use it when flat miles feel too soft. Akron Marathon, Akron Trail Marathon, Home Run for the Homeless 4-mile run, and the 2026 Goodyear Half Marathon & 10k are the anchor races.

Akron riders build a lot around the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail, especially when they want steady gravel, easy spins, or no-drama base miles. Riders can add 2 mi more for a tight gravel hit. Summit Metro Parks schedules nearly 23 Akron-area group bike rides from May to October, so riders get a real calendar without forcing a formal club scene. Summit Lake Nature Center, Clinton Trail Trailhead, Mustill Store, Big Bend Trailhead, and Center Road Trailhead all show up in the ride mix. North Hill, West Hill, and the rolling hills in every direction are where locals go for climbing.

May to October is the clean training window, and locals stack long runs, group rides, trail runs, and Towpath miles before the darker months squeeze the schedule. 7 days per year on average, so runners and riders start early and keep intervals honest. Winter changes the game for both sports because Akron gets cold days, mixed rain, sleet, snow, occasional icing, and about 150 cm of snow in a normal year. The average winter temperature hovers around 1°C, so locals shift toward traction, layers, shorter loops, and steady Z2 instead of pretending every day is race prep.
