Recurring Marathon races near Cleveland

Races that repeat — weekly, monthly or yearly

Run with Scissors
SUN OCT 25
Run with Scissors begins and ends at Riverdale Regional Park in Brighton, Colorado. All races start at 7:00 a.m. during the spring. The series offers runners three distance options: a half marathon, a marathon, and a 50K. A 9-hour time limit applies to all three distances, catering to long-distance runners seeking an extended period on the course rather than a brief, speed-focused event. The race honors its name with a custom scissors-shaped medal. Finishers also receive a race-specific wicking beanie and a 16-ounce pub-style drinking glass. A portion of the proceeds benefits Almost Home Inc., a nonprofit charity. Previous events featured Darla’s vegan chili, prepared with sweet potato, quinoa, black beans, kidney beans, onion, garlic, tomato sauce, and garlic-and-herb pasta sauce.
Run The Land - East vs. West
SAT APR 10
Run The Land - East vs. West, a Greater Cleveland race series, pits participants against each other based on the city’s old river rivalry, with a choice of East or West at registration. The race weekend includes Friday packet pickup and Saturday wave starts. Available distances are marathon, 20-mile, half marathon, 10K, and 5K, along with a virtual option for those who prefer to run on their own schedule. The in-person courses are marked sidewalk routes that follow normal traffic laws, with RaceJoy GPS tracking runners, providing off-course warnings, and recording official finish times. Aid stations are positioned every 3 miles for half marathon, 20-mile, and marathon participants. The event, designed by runners, benefits Greater Cleveland nonprofits. Each runner selects a 501(c)(3) charity during registration. Additional race-day perks include a pint glass, drink ticket, bib, timing chip, charity fundraising shirts or hoodies, a Cleveland Road Runners Club discount, and team bragging rights with distinct shirt colors for the East or West victor.

About Marathon races in Cleveland

Cleveland Training Notes

Cleveland hosts 5 Marathon races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Cleveland runners get a real park-dominant setup, with Lake Erie on one side and the Emerald Necklace wrapping the city. Edgewater Park works for a clean 5K, and Rocky River Reservation gives locals over 13 miles of paved trails. The Towpath Trail handles long base miles from downtown with urban and wooded scenery. Guardian Runners keeps Wednesday nights moving, and Ready Set! Run meets early in the Gordon Square Arts District. Cleveland Road Runners Club runs in sun, rain, sleet, or snow. Sleeping Weiners Run Crew helped push the Memorial Bridges Loop. University Hospitals Cleveland Marathon is the big anchor event, with Towpath Twilight and Full Moon Trail Series close behind.

Cleveland riders have enough variety for Z2, intervals, gravel, cyclocross, and singletrack days. Cleveland Lakefront Bikeway spans 17 miles from Euclid to Lakewood, and the Emerald Necklace Loop runs 58 miles from Edgewater Park out toward Cuyahoga Valley National Park and back. Cuyahoga Valley Adventure Loop gives riders 47 km from Lock 29 Trailhead in Peninsula. Rocky River Reservation stays popular for group rides, and Spin in Lakewood has Wednesday night rides with A, B, and C groups. Cleveland Triathlon Club rides there too. Ohio City Bicycle Co-op, Major Taylor Cleveland, Cleveland Touring Club, Lake Erie Wheelers, and Cleveland Cycling Academy keep the scene busy. The Heights and Oak Leaf Loop bring the serious hills.

Spring, summer, and fall are the best training months in Cleveland. Summer hits 4°C and gives you enough heat for early starts, bottles, and steady Z2 along the lake. Lake Erie can make one summer ride feel totally different from the next, especially when the wind flips. Winter changes the plan, but locals still show up. Winter temps drop to 8°C, and lake-effect snow usually runs from mid-November until late January or early February. The East Side gets higher totals, while the Hopkins neighborhood sees lower totals. Cleveland Road Runners Club keeps weekly runs going, and riders know not riding all winter is the biggest mistake.
