Recurring 5K races near Colchester
Races that repeat — weekly, monthly or yearly
5th Annual Purple Light Project 5K
The Purple Light Project 5K begins at the IOL Campus on Retreat Avenue in Hartford, Connecticut. The main 5K race starts in the morning, following registration and a free single-circuit Fun Run for children 10 and under. This community 5K is connected to behavioral health support and is open to youth and adult runners. Fast Track Timing will professionally time the event.
The race generates funds for Purple Light Project patients. Every dollar from the 5K directly supports practical needs, including food vouchers, transportation, winter clothing, hygiene items, and comfort items for individuals in treatment. Awards will be presented to male, female, and non-binary runners across various age groups. Participants will also receive race shirts and reusable water bottles.
Fishbein / YMCA Community Road Race
The Fishbein / YMCA Community Road Race is a running series in Wallingford, Connecticut, offering short distances: 1 km, 1.6 km, and 5 km. It takes place in October and is designed for local involvement, with options suitable for children, beginners, walkers, and runners seeking a standard 5K.
The event has roots nearly 50 years old, originating from a Wallingford tradition established by Johanna Manfreda Fishbein. Over the years, it evolved into a town-wide collaboration, with various Wallingford organizations cooperating on the race.
Apple Harvest Road Races
The Apple Harvest Road Races take place on a fall morning in Southington, organized by the Southington Community YMCA. The main races begin near Columbus Boulevard and the YMCA. The event offers multiple options for participants: a 5-mile race, a 5K, a middle school 5K, a 2-mile health walk, a Y CUP 1-mile race for fourth and fifth graders, and Little Fritter Fun Runs for younger children.
The 5-mile race starts from the top of Columbus Boulevard, followed by the 5K from the same location. The health walk commences in front of the YMCA. Y CUP runners enter the course at the 2.1-mile mark of the 5K, and the Little Fritter races commence after the 5-mile and 5K races conclude. Awards are presented across numerous age groups for the 5K and 5-mile events. Local recognition is important, with distinct memorial trophies awarded to the top Southington finishers, including the Dave Gworek Trophy for the 5-mile race and the Tony Manning Trophy for the 5K.
Ivoryton Pumpkin Chase
The Ivoryton Pumpkin Chase begins at Ivoryton Library in Ivoryton, Connecticut. It includes a 5K road-and-trail race and a Kiddie Pumpkin Fun Run for children age 7 and under. The event takes place during peak foliage season in southern New England, and registration includes a T-shirt. The race supports the Ivoryton Library and its programs, with assistance from the Essex Land Trust.
The 5K route starts with approximately half a mile on North Main Street, then proceeds onto Falls River Drive before entering Falls River Preserve near the one-mile point. Within the preserve, participants navigate a 1.1-mile loop alongside the Falls River. The trail consists of about half a mile of double track followed by hilly, rocky single track. This combination of village road, preserve trail, and a family race distinguishes it as a local fall event.
Harvest Hope 5K
The Harvest Hope 5K is a Thanksgiving Day turkey trot held in Denver’s Stapleton neighborhood, with its focus on Central Park in northeast Denver. The primary race is a professionally timed 5K run on a USATF certified course. Families also have the option to include younger participants in a Kids 1K Fun Run.
The 5K route utilizes the paths within Central Park, providing a neighborhood-park atmosphere as opposed to a downtown-street setting. This event was introduced as the first organized and timed Northeast Denver Thanksgiving Day race. Registration covers a race shirt, a goodie bag, complimentary race-day photos, and a commemorative key-chain medal upon completion. Proceeds are directed to re.
Run The Runway 5K & Kids Fun Run
Run The Runway 5K & Kids Fun Run offers runners and walkers a unique opportunity to race on the runway at Meriden Markham Airport in Meriden, Connecticut. The children's race begins, followed by the 5K. The event is presented by the airport, the City of Meriden, and the Meriden Running Club.
The 5K begins on the Meriden Markham runway, proceeds through the South Meriden neighborhood, and finishes back on the airfield. Proceeds benefit DAV: Disabled American Veterans. The children's run is free. Awards for the 5K are given to overall winners and age-group finishers. Dogs are prohibited on the airfield property.
St. Michael School 5K Turkey Trot
The St. Michael School 5K Turkey Trot is a fall road race in Pawcatuck, Connecticut, starting at 9:00 AM and held regardless of weather. The primary event is a timed 5K for runners and walkers, providing official results for those aiming for a personal best or seeking a measured local race. A 1-mile untimed fun run, beginning simultaneously, is intended for children and participants preferring a shorter, less demanding distance.
The event supports St. Michael School and marks its 16th year. Race-day check-in is available before the start. The format is straightforward: run or walk, gather afterward, and remain for food, drinks, prizes, and an awards ceremony for the 5K. The registration process also reflects the community focus, offering a lower-cost fun run and a shirt deadline for early registrants.
Lyman Orchards Pie Run
CT Veterans Day Race
The CT Veterans Day Race is a Connecticut event held around Veterans Day, featuring a 4-mile run and 3-mile walk and 3-mile ruck options. The purpose is straightforward: participants attend to express gratitude to veterans, with all race proceeds directed to Veteran Service Organizations in Connecticut.
The ruck provides the event's most unique feature. Rather than carrying a predetermined weight, ruck participants place non-perishable food items in a backpack for the 3 miles, then contribute it at the finish to the veterans food pantry at Veterans Base Camp. The race has been held for at least ten years, and its fundraising has aided several Connecticut veteran organizations annually.
Plainfield Salute the Troops 5k, Fun Run, & Soldier Stroll
The Salute the Troops race day is a Wisconsin fundraiser featuring several distances: a 10K, the Dobogai Memorial 5K, a kids' race, a fun run, and a Soldier Stroll. The 10K begins at Lakeside Park in Fond du Lac with a three-hour time limit, suitable for steady racers and those seeking a manageable community race supporting a veterans' cause.
The event raises funds for military veterans. Awards are presented to the overall male and female finishers, age-group winners (0-14 to 70+), and the top male and female veteran finishers. Plaques are given to the two overall winners. This marks the 15th annual edition, with organizers relying on sponsors, volunteers, and returning participants to sustain the event.
Robert J. Lynes Memorial Road Race
The Robert J. Lynes Memorial Road Race is a 5K run/walk at Hubbard Park in Meriden, Connecticut, preceded by a free kids Fun Run. The 5K covers 3.1 miles and honors Bobby Lynes, a lifelong Meriden resident.
The race is closely associated with Hubbard Park; donations and proceeds benefit the Robert J. Lynes Memorial Fund, which aids park preservation and beautification. Registration is exclusively online, with fees dependent on the signup period. Early 5K registrants will receive a race T-shirt.
Husky Run & Ruck 10K, 5K and Fitness Walk
The Husky Run & Ruck takes place during Veterans Day weekend in Storrs, Connecticut. It features a 10K run, a 5K run, and an untimed 1-mile fitness walk. The event is centered at UConn, with ceremonies before and after the races held outside the Student Recreation Center. All three main events begin on Hillside Road in the morning. The 5K has a distinct start area, separate from the 10K and walk.
The 10K route follows the Bonemill loop through the rural Mansfield-Storrs area. All courses include a pass by the Ultimate Sacrifice Memorial on the Great Lawn. Proceeds benefit scholarships for military and veteran students, as well as the Kyle Milliken Fund. This fund honors Navy SEAL Kyle Jeffrey Milliken, a former UConn Track & Field walk-on who died in service. A Blackhawk helicopter landing on the Great Lawn adds a military presence, complementing the standard start line ceremony. A Kids Run concludes under the Hillside Road arch following the primary races.
