22½ annual Potomac River Run Marathon & Half
The Potomac River Run Marathon & Half begins and ends at Fletcher's Cove in Washington, D.C., offering marathon and half-marathon distances along the C&O Canal Towpath. This spring trail race coincides with World Laughter Day, and its organizers describe it as the most accessible trail marathon and half in the United States.
The route keeps participants on the towpath, avoiding city streets, creating a canal-side trail atmosphere rather than a large urban marathon feel. All finishers receive a Dan Kain Trophies medallion. Awards are presented immediately after each runner completes the race. The recovery zone features refreshments on the towpath, followed by a post-race picnic. The event is also a component of the SHF Grand Prix; runners completing three SHF half or full marathons in the series are eligible for a cash prize. FindMyMarathon voters selected it as Washington, D.C.’s leading marathon in a poll. The series also features a subsequent 23½-mile event held in remembrance of Dean Shulman and Wendy Martinez.
Marine Corps Marathon Semper Fi & America's Fund Team 2026
The Semper Fi & America's Fund Team participates in the Marine Corps Marathon in Arlington, Virginia, a 26.2-mile race that takes place in October. This team supports a fund providing financial aid and long-term assistance to U.S. service members and their families who have sustained wounds, critical illnesses, or catastrophic injuries.
Team members receive a training shirt, a race-day shirt, a team shakeout run, a pre-race gathering, and access to a team tent in Charity Village. The Marine Corps Marathon relies on extensive volunteer support, with approximately 1,850 individuals assisting on race day. They distribute water, Gatorade, snacks, Band-Aids, medals, shirts, manage baggage, provide directions, and offer encouragement along the course.
Marine Corps Marathon
The Marine Corps Marathon begins in Arlington, proceeds through Washington, D.C., and returns to Arlington to finish at the Marine Corps War Memorial. This road marathon takes place on the last Sunday in October, just before the Marine Corps Birthday, and has been held annually since 1976. Known as “the People’s Marathon,” it does not offer prize money, has no entry lottery, and is open to runners aged 14 and older. With approximately 40,000 finishers, it is the third-largest marathon in the United States and the world’s largest no-prize-money race.
The route offers a capital-area marathon rather than a closed stadium event: it starts in northern Virginia, goes through Washington, D.C., and concludes beside the Iwo Jima memorial. Marine Corps involvement extends beyond branding; the event was established to promote fitness, foster goodwill between the military and the public, and demonstrate Marine Corps organization on a significant civic stage. Colonel James L. Fowler initially proposed the concept as a Marine Corps Reserve Marathon, aiming for community outreach, recruiting, and providing local Marines a chance to qualify for the Boston Marathon. Charity runners, service members, club runners, and first-time marathoners all compete together.
We Got Your Six Running Festival
The We Got Your Six Running Festival is a half marathon and marathon event held on the Indian Head Rail Trail in Charles County, Maryland. It begins at 9:00 AM, following packet pickup at the race venue, a brief pre-race talk, and the National Anthem. Participant numbers are limited to 200, making it a focused race rather than a large-scale city event.
The event supports the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and is timed by Racine MultiSports. Participants receive a race shirt, a custom bib, and a finisher medal. Custom podium awards are presented after the race. Both individual runners and relay team members are eligible for medals, with the awards ceremony taking place after the race concludes.
