Philadelphia's running scene is dominated by flat, fast courses through the city—the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and Fairmount Park loops are staples—but the real action for distance runners happens at the Eagles Autism Challenge and other organized events that thread through neighborhoods and along the Schuylkill River. Cyclists have it better: the Ben to the Shore Bike Tour heads 65km southeast to the Jersey Shore on relatively flat terrain, while gravel riders tackle the Parker Dam Gravel Grinder in the northern Appalachian foothills (roughly 115km round trip with sustained climbing), and the multi-day Keystone State Ride connects the region's longer routes through mixed terrain.
