Marathon races near Ridgefield Park

The TCS New York City Marathon begins at the foot of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge on Staten Island and sends over 52,000 runners across New York City on the first Sunday of November. It is the world's largest marathon, with a field that includes top professionals, wheelchair racers, club runners, charity runners, and first-timers from over 140 countries. The route moves from Staten Island through Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx before finishing in Manhattan, turning the race into a five-borough tour with over one million people watching from the streets. The event began with just 127 entrants and 55 finishers on a four-lap Central Park course, then later grew into the citywide race it is now; over 1.2 million people have finished it since the first running.

Veterans and active duty military receive a special paper-registration offer for the InFirst Bank Veterans Marathon, Half Marathon & Relay, which includes discounted pricing and a complimentary T-shirt. The event is based in Blairsville, Pennsylvania. Pre-race packet pickup occurs on a Saturday in late October, with race-day pickup on Sunday morning at Saylor Park. The Indiana Road Runners Club organizes the race, which raises funds for local veterans, integrating the military theme into its name and registration process.
