About this race
The Jamestown Classic is a 19-mile bike ride on Conanicut Island, Rhode Island, conducted as a timed and supported event. It is open to all and suits a wide range of participants: recreational cyclists, serious racers, families, first-time riders, and anyone with a bike and a helmet. Riders depart in groups based on pre-registration numbers, and all receive a finish time categorized by sex, age, and ability.
The course remains on island roads, giving the event a local, contained feel rather than a point-to-point journey. Medals are awarded to the top three finishers in each category. The event also functions as the Jamestown Rotary Club’s primary fundraiser. Proceeds from the race have funded local projects, such as music chairs for Jamestown Middle School and local Boy Scouts, and international initiatives, including wheelchairs in Nicaragua, a women’s literacy project in Ghana, clean-water efforts in Cambodia, rural sanitation, ALS research, and educational technology for underserved nations.
