About this race
The AmeriHealth Atlantic City Marathon race weekend begins on the Boardwalk near Bally’s Hotel and Casino, with the ocean and casino district adjacent to the start. Held in October, it offers runners a full schedule: marathon, half marathon, 10K, the G. Larry James 5K, and King Neptune Challenge options that combine a longer race with either the 10K or 5K. The marathon, established in 1958, ranks as the third oldest continuous marathon in the United States.
The marathon and half marathon course crosses Atlantic City, Ventnor, Margate, and Longport, connecting the Boardwalk casinos with the beach towns of Absecon Island. The event attracts participants from all 50 states and from other countries, establishing it as a local Shore race with a broad international draw. The 5K supports a cause: it generates scholarship funds via the G. Larry James Legacy Endowed Scholarship Fund, named for the Stockton University athletics leader who earned Olympic gold in the 4 x 400-meter relay and silver in the 400 meters.
