The New Town Backyard Ultra begins at the amphitheater in New Town, Saint Charles, Missouri, on an October morning. It is a last-person-standing race structured around a 4.17-mile loop. Runners start on the hour, complete the loop, and must return to begin the next lap when the subsequent hour commences. The setup is straightforward and somewhat rough-and-ready, in the typical backyard ultra style. Registration costs $25. Afterward, each runner contributes one dollar to the race fund for every loop they attempt. The winner receives half of the accumulated funds, with the remaining half donated to the MSMDS charity. Participants can establish a base near the start area for food, rest, and equipment between laps, and restrooms are available. Every runner who finishes a lap receives a custom NewTown Ultra DNF token, fitting the race's format where all but the last runner ultimately record a DNF.
