About this race
The Big Mack Sprint Triathlon is a multisport race held in early summer at Lake Cammack Park and Marina in Burlington, North Carolina. The triathlon features a 750-meter open-water swim, a 14.5-mile bike course, and a 5-kilometer run. A time-trial swim start is used to space out participants at the beginning. The event also includes duathlon, aquabike, relay, and virtual race options, allowing participation without completing all three triathlon disciplines. It is part of the Trivium Multisport Series and adheres to USA Triathlon Competitive Rules.
The swim course is distinctive because Lake Cammack is a clean, protected lake usually closed to public swimming; race day provides athletes with access they would not otherwise have. Following the swim, the bike leg proceeds along quiet country roads, and the run takes place on shaded park trails. The race is designed for both novice and experienced competitors, with convenient access from Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and Durham. It also serves as the second event in the North Carolina Multisport Medal Series, where finisher medals from five races combine to form a sun catcher.
