About this race
The Burris Hoot Scoot is a morning race series held at Burris East Lawn in Muncie, Indiana. It features a 5K, a 1-mile run, and an Owlet Dash for children aged 5 and under. The event is structured with the youngest runners starting first, followed by the mile, and then the 5K, allowing families to participate in multiple events throughout the morning. Both the 5K and the 1-mile run have separate adult and student categories, with reduced pricing for students.
The Burris Hoot Scoot has strong ties to Burris Laboratory School. All proceeds benefit the Burris Owls PTSO, an organization that supports teachers, students, and families through various community events, teacher recognition, grant funding, and an annual scholarship for a graduating senior. The 5K and 1-mile courses are recently established routes. A unique detail is the race shirt, featuring a design selected from entries submitted by students in Burris drawing classes. Food will be available from Parlor Doughnuts, and a shirt-only option is offered for those wishing to contribute to the fundraiser without competing.
