About this race
The Cahaba Medical Care 5K begins and ends at the Cahaba Medical Care Community Center in Centreville, Alabama. The certified 5K course crosses the Cahaba River twice. This annual evening race is connected to the community center and Cahaba Medical Care, a Federally Qualified Health Center. It welcomes runners, walkers, families, first-timers, and those seeking age-group awards. An untimed Fun Run/Walk option is available for participants who want the shirt, meal, and shared event without the timed competition.
The route goes through historic uptown Centreville, with hydration stations provided for the summer heat. After finishing, participants can enjoy cold watermelon slices, a post-race meal, vendors and activities at Celebration on the Green, and an Independence Day fireworks show. The race was previously known as the Watermelon Run / Rockets & Rapids 5K, reflecting the river crossings and watermelon tradition. Fundraising efforts support food pantries and nutrition programs in rural and urban communities, linking the run to Cahaba Medical Care’s mission concerning health, food access, and family care.
